Lion Insurance Company was incorporated in New York as a stock insurance company on July 14, 1989 and commenced business on October 1, 1990.  The company was not authorized to transact business in any state other than New York.

The Company was placed into rehabilitation and the New York Superintendent of Insurance was appointed as Rehabilitator on September 6, 2007, by order of the Supreme Court of the State of New York.
