Historical Information:

Acceleration National Insurance Company was a property and casualty insurer domiciled in the State of Ohio, and licensed to write property and casualty insurance in the State of New York. It was declared insolvent and placed in liquidation by the Ohio Department of Insurance on February 28, 2001 by order of Franklin County Court of Common Pleas of the State of Ohio. The New York Superintendent of Insurance was appointed Ancillary Receiver by order of the Supreme Court of the State of New York on December 14, 2001.

Acceleration National wrote private passenger auto, commercial auto and public motor vehicle liability coverage. They also wrote aviation accident coverage.

Under New York Insurance law covered claims are paid by three funds - the New York Property / Casualty Insurance Security Fund (P/C Fund), the New York Public Motor Vehicle Liability Security Fund (PMV Fund), and the New York Workers Compensation Security Fund (WC Fund).

It should be noted that the PMV Fund is financially strained at present, and as a result the PMV Fund is unable to provide either a defense or indemnification to those insureds covered by the Fund. Those insureds have been so notified.

Please note that claims for return of unearned premium are covered by the New York Security Funds, and that these claims are handled in-house under the direction of the Finance division.
